Digital Accessibility
We are digital accessibility consultants helping Australian organisations audit, design, and build products that meet WCAG 2.2 – so every one of your users can access what you’ve built.
End-to-end expertise to make your product accessible
Restive’s digital accessibility consultants help Australian organisations design, build, and optimise digital products that work for everyone – including the 1 in 5 Australians living with a disability.
Accessibility isn’t a compliance checkbox. Done well, it improves usability for all users, reduces legal risk under Australian legislation, and has a measurable impact on conversion and revenue. The commercial case is real – when we embedded accessibility into a digital transformation program for one of Australia’s leading retail groups, it drove a 2% uplift in conversion and contributed to over $30M in additional annual revenue.
Our consultants embed directly into your product and engineering teams – from initial audit through to design, implementation, testing, and governance. Wherever you are on the journey, we can help you move forward.
Why does digital accessibility matter?
Accessibility touches every layer of your digital product. The organisations that get it right don’t treat it as a project – they build it into how they design, develop, and measure everything. There are three forces that make accessibility business-critical.
Legal and compliance
Australia's Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) set a clear standard. Government agencies are now legally required to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, and private sector exposure is growing. An accessibility audit identifies your risk before it becomes a liability.
Inclusion and reach
Around 4.4 million Australians live with disability. Inaccessible digital products lock them out - and create friction for millions more experiencing situational limitations (poor lighting, noisy environments, small screens, temporary injuries). Accessible design is good design for everyone.
Performance and conversion
Accessibility improvements don't just reduce risk - they drive results. Cleaner markup, faster load times, logical navigation structures, and clear error handling benefit every user. Our work with a leading Australian retail group proved it: accessibility-focused design changes contributed directly to measurable revenue growth.
Where does your organisation sit?
Most Australian businesses sit somewhere between “we know we have issues” and “we’ve done some work but it’s not consistent.” The gap between ad-hoc fixes and embedded accessibility practice is where the real risk and opportunity live. We meet you where you are.
Unaware
- No accessibility testing in place
- Unknown WCAG compliance level
- Accessibility not in design or dev briefs
Reactive
- Issues fixed as complaints come in
- No design system standards
- Compliance patchy across product
Audit-led
- Accessibility audit completed
- Known issues, partial remediation
- Inconsistent implementation across teams
Embedded
- Accessibility in design system and component library
- Dev team trained and testing regularly
- WCAG 2.2 AA achieved on core user journeys
Optimised
- Continuous accessibility testing in CI/CD pipeline
- Real user testing with people with disability
- Governance and documentation maintaining standards at scale
Our digital accessibility framework
Accessibility audit and gap analysis
Our accessibility audits cover your web, mobile, and digital products end-to-end – testing against WCAG 2.2 standards and identifying issues by severity, business impact, and remediation effort. You don’t just get a list of failures. You get a clear, prioritised action plan that tells you what to fix first, what to defer, and what the effort actually looks like. It’s the starting point for everything else we do.
Accessible design and design systems
We design products and interfaces that are accessible from the ground up – building accessibility standards into your design system and component library so teams don’t have to solve the same problems repeatedly. This includes screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, colour contrast, focus management, and touch target sizing.
Accessibility implementation and engineering
Our engineers work alongside your development teams to implement accessibility features directly into your codebase – not as an afterthought, but as part of the build. We handle semantic HTML, ARIA roles, focus management, form validation, and testing with assistive technologies including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.
Testing with real users
Automated tools catch around 30% of accessibility issues. The rest require human testing. We conduct moderated usability sessions with participants who use assistive technology – screen readers, switch access, voice control – to surface issues that automated scans miss and validate that real users can complete real tasks.
Training and governance
Sustainable accessibility means your teams can maintain standards without external help every time. We provide role-specific training for designers, developers, content authors, and QA teams, plus governance frameworks, documentation, and testing checklists to keep WCAG best practice at the forefront as your product evolves.
Real outcomes, for real Australian organisations.
If users can’t use it, they’ll leave.
It’s that simple. Our guide to digital accessibility covers what WCAG 2.2 actually requires, where most Australian products fall short, and what good accessibility practice looks like in a real product team.
